Ingredients:
- For the Cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup sour cream
- 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Dry Ingredients:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Set aside.
- Cream the Butter and Sugars:
- In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the Eggs and Vanilla:
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the sour cream, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Fold in the Apples:
- Gently fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
- In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
- Assemble the Cake:
- Spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter. Spread the remaining batter on top, then sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Bake the Cake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The cake should be golden brown and slightly pulled away from the edges of the pan.
- Cool and Serve:
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature. Optionally, you can dust the top with powdered sugar before serving.
