Homemade Soft Buns Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
- 500 grams (4 cups) all-purpose flour
- 7 grams (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 250 ml (1 cup) warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 50 grams (1/4 cup) butter, softened
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar (for garnish, optional)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Prepare the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, egg, and softened butter. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the Dough:
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Proofing:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Buns:
- Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball and place them in a greased baking dish.
- Second Proofing:
- Cover the buns and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes until puffy.
- Egg Wash & Baking:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Mix egg yolk with milk and brush it over the buns.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Finishing Touches:
- Let the buns cool slightly and sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
