Homemade Soft Buns Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 500 grams (4 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 7 grams (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 250 ml (1 cup) warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 50 grams (1/4 cup) butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for garnish, optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, egg, and softened butter. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First Proofing:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Buns:
    • Punch down the dough and divide it into equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball and place them in a greased baking dish.
  6. Second Proofing:
    • Cover the buns and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes until puffy.
  7. Egg Wash & Baking:
    • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Mix egg yolk with milk and brush it over the buns.
    • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Finishing Touches:
    • Let the buns cool slightly and sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
